One of the most traditional skiing areas with one of the of the first ski lifts in Tyrol can be found on Mt. Kellerjoch near Schwaz.
On the Kellerjoch, the 2,344 m high local mountain of Schwaz in the Tux Alps, there’s a small but mighty skiing area which provides a great view on the Tux Alps in the south and the Karwendel mountain chain in the north. The Kellerjochbahnen lift facilities - a double chairlift and two T-bar lifts - take you from the hamlet of Pill up to 1,887 m a.s.l. where 14 km of well-groomed slopes are waiting for you. Also the Schippel Ski School with ski rental is available.
With its own family downhill run and the new Grafenast Kids’ Park on a sunny and gentle practise slope, Mt. Kellerjoch is a very family-friendly skiing area. For those who love challenges, there is the Waizer Slope (2.4 km long) as well as a sports downhill run. Also the 8 km long natural toboggan run from the Hecherhaus mountain hut (1,900 m a.s.l.) to Arzberg (850 m a.s.l.) is part of the skiing area. It continues down the valley to Freundsberg Castle.
Beside the Kellerjoch, there are a few single ski lifts in the Silver Region Karwendel: in Weerberg the two Schwanner lifts which serve a relatively plain slope, as well as the Hüttegg lift can be found. The latter takes you on a well-groomed slope and overcomes a drop of 250 metres. The Burglift in Stans, however, has its HOTZONE.TV Snowpark and provides the possibility to practise night-time skiing twice a week. And finally there’s also the village of Kolsassberg with its two T-bar lifts. In the Kellerjoch skiing area the “Tyrol Snow Card” is valid!
