The ‘Land of Mountains’ is divided into North Tyrol and East Tyrol, which are not, however, geographically connected. The considerably smaller East Tyrol is traversed by the River Drau, which also flows through the capital, Lienz. With the Hohe Tauern forming its northern border, the mountains dominate the landscape. North Tyrol, on the other hand, is crossed by the Inn River, which flows through the capital, Innsbruck, and is dominated by mountain ranges such as the Ötztal Alps and the Silvretta.
