winterliche natur und aussicht auf kufstein

The holiday destination Kufstein is located between South Tyrol in Italy and Bavaria in Germany.

Altitude: 503 m asl

Known as the “pearl of Tyrol”, the town of Kufstein features about 15,000 inhabitants. This locality has already been celebrated in a song of 1947, which praises Kufstein to be a calm place located along the Inn river. And that’s what Kufstein is still like today.

The emblem of the town is the majestic Kufstein Fortress, which has been mentioned for the first time in 1205 AD. Still today it dominates the locality on a hill, and this is where the museum of local history is located, which exhibits a considerable number of ice-age arrowheads. These archeological findings make Kufstein one of the oldest inhabited areas of Tyrol. In the Kufstein Fortress you can also see the “Heroes’ Organ” (Heldenorgel), the largest outdoor organ worldwide. However, many visitors also come to the city due to its lovely historic district as well as the large number of cultural events taking place, including the Wine Festival, the Operetta summer Kufstein, the Magic Christmas on the fortress and the Pre New Year’s Eve party on December 30, as well as the “Day of 1,000 lights”…

The nature reserve Wilder Kaiser, however, offers relaxation in the heart of unspoilt nature, which is perfect for exploring the landscape on foot. The new Kaiserlift Kufstein funicular - which has been renovated in 2014/2015 - takes you on the Brentenjoch mountain. Moreover there are a large number of mountain bike trails, fitness parcours, bathing lakes and a riding stable. And don’t forget to stop off at one of the local restaurants and enjoy some Tyrolean delicacies, such as Schlutzkrapfen, cheese dumplings (Pressknödel) or a hearty “Tiroler Gröstl”. In winter the city is connected to the SkiWelt Wilder Kaiser - Brixental, which is the largest connected skiing resort of Austria. Kufstein both summer and winter is a very popular holiday resort and a place to come back with pleasure!

Our recommendation: in 1998 navigation on the Inn river has been reintroduced! On the “St. Nikolaus” you can board from Fischergries near Kufstein, from Niederndorf and Ebbs in the district of Kufstein, as well as from Kiefersfelden and Oberaudorf in Upper Bavaria.
