The holiday area of Lake Achensee and the Karwendel Silver Region, with the main town called Schwaz, have been characterised for centuries by mining. Those times are still alive in the famous silver mine Schwaz in the periphery of the town. The journey into the silver mine starts with an 800 m long train ride down into the “Sigmund” tunnel. During the day the city enchants you with fascinating historical buildings and a pleasant pedestrian zone.
Surrounded by the wild romantic Karwendel mountain chain, the holiday area invites both in summer and in winter to spend relaxing holidays. The offer in this area is wide and includes a visit to one of the distilleries and to the Zeiss Planetarium Schwaz as well as a navigation on Lake Achensee. In cold months, you can choose between the ski slopes on the Rofan mountain or in the family skiing area Kellerjoch, or you go cross-country skiing around Lake Achensee.
