The majestic castle and fortress ensemble Ehrenberg, consisting of the Klause fortress, the ruin of Ehrenberg, the Schlosskopf fortress and Fort Claudia, soars in the east of Reutte along one of the most important trade routes of ancient times. No matter if emperors, knights or merchants - everyone had to come by this place due to the strategic position between north and south.
A real Mediaeval adventure is what expects the whole family nowadays in the "Burgenwelt Ehrenberg", an experience for all senses. The entire facility can be visited following a well signposted path network. History to touch is offered in the adventure and family museum "Dem Ritter auf der Spur" (On the Knights Trail). In 14 representative rooms 14 burdens of knighthood and a knight's life in general are illustrated. Alchimists, experiments, crusades and plague... experience it firsthand and participate actively. Or maybe you would like to become a knight yourself? Also little hearts will leap for joy, as Rüdiger, the Knight, accompanies children throughout this exhibition, realised in a child-oriented way. And in the end you're invited to explore the world of the Lech river, the last wild river of the Northern Alps, in the nature exhibition "Der letzte Wilde - Erleben-Staunen-Verstehen" (The last wild - experience-marvel-understand).
However, for some years now also the world's second longest swing pedestrian bridge, the "highline179", is part of the ensemble. The 406 m long bridge connects the ruin of Ehrenberg and Fort Claudia and is surpassed only by the 494 m long Europe Bridge in Zermatt in Switzerland. New in 2019 is the "Ehrenberg Liner", an inclined elevator for barrier-free access to the new exhibition about defence technology and the techniques of siege warfare in the Hornwerk fortress and to the above mentioned "highline179".
