Ehrwald

In a sunny basin, there is the Ehrwald, surrounded by peaks with melodious names such as Wetterstein Mountains and Zugspitze.

Altitude: 1,000 m a.s.l.

For a long time, the municipality of Ehrwald was living on mining, up to the year 1926, when the Zugspitz Cable Car was inaugurated. This lift facility, which represented the second funicular in all of Austria and which has been renewed in 1991, attracted the first tourists to this area.

The surroundings represent a real natural spectacle, as only in the area of the Tyrolean Zugspitz Arena there are eight lakes and waterfalls, including the Häselgähr Waterfall along the Loisach stream and the Seeben Waterfall with its via ferrata. On the mountains you can explore countless hiking paths, the Zugspitz and the Ehrwalder Almbahn Cable Cars take you to the starting point.

In winter, these cable cars represent the access to the Ehrwalder Alm Skiing Area and to the large Tyrolean Zugspitz Arena Ski Region. Cross-country skiers, however, can enjoy skiing along the tracks in Ehrwald, e.g. on the almost 40 km long Tyrolean Zugspitz Arena Track. Ehrwald is also popular for the Midsummer Night Festival, taking place every year round June 21. Different elements are composed of incendary material and lit, and on numerous mountains there are fires.
