Hike to the Coburger Hütte mountain hut

From the Ehrwald Alp via the famous Lake Seebensee up to Lake Drachensee, with view on Mt. Zugspitze and the Mieminger Chain - this hiking tour has several nature highlights to offer

In Ehrwald we take the Ehrwalder Cable Car up to 1,490 m a.s.l. Here, straight beneath Mt. Wetterspitze and not far from the famous Zugspitze, the starting point of our hike to Lake Seebensee, Lake Drachensee and the Coburg Mountain Hut is located. First we walk uphill on the forest road towards the Gaistal valley, then the path to the Seeben Mountain Hut branches off to the right. Soon we can branch off from the forest road onto a footpath through the wood, so we are not disturbed by the few cars and the numerous cyclists. After a slight up and down both paths reach the Seeben Alm hut. We hike a bit further up to Lake Seebensee at 1,650 m a.s.l.

The lake is a real gem: The panoramic backdrop above the turquoise shimmering water, which extends from the Wetterstein Mountains in the north to the peaks of the Mieminger Chain (Drachenköpfe, Tajaköpfe, Sonnenspitze and Grünstein), has already inspired the writer Ludwig Ganghofer. At Lake Seebensee the forest path ends, then the trail climbs another 280 m uphill straight to the Coburg Mountain Hut. Arrived there we enjoy a fantastic view on the beneath located Lake Drachensee which is framed by the rugged limestone peaks of the Mieminger Chain. After a stop and a detour to the lake we return to the valley along the same route.
