Hike to the Kothkaserkreuz viewpoint

Thierbach, starting point of this hike, is a small mountain village in the municipality of Wildschönau, accessible by car via the village of Mühltal. We follow the marker towards the Schatzberg Mountain Hut. A good, at the beginning somewhat steep forest path leads through the meadow landscape into the forest, towards the Rauher Kopf, a wooded hill. The gravel road continues to wind uphill, after about one hour it proceeds along the panoramic mountain slope towards south. The forest gives way to a beautiful heath and alpine meadow landscape.

At a junction, the path to the Ausserkothkaser Mountain Hut and the Kothkaserkreuz viewpoint separates from the path to the Schatzberg Mountain Hut. The view stretches until Mt. Wilder Kaiser, the Kitzbühel Alps and the High Tauern. Those who invest 10 minutes and 60 m in altitude more from here can reach the Schatzberg Mountain Hut at the mountain station of the Schatzberg Cable Car, located at 1,770 m a.s.l. It is the only rest point along the route.
