Starkenberg Beer Adventure World

Tarrenz, located in the holiday area of Imst, offers a particular beer adventure world with plenty of secrets.

Starkenberg Castle in Tarrenz, built between 1309 and 1339 by the Knights of Starkenberg, offers a brewery and a very special world of experience, called "Starkenberger Biermythos" in German. The "Starkenberg Beer", a beer brewed according to the Bavarian purity law from 1516, is produced here. It is the most-awarded beer of Austria, rewarded with 40 gold medals of the "Monde-Selection" and awarded "Most popular Tyrolean brewery 2020"! The selection comprises light and dark beer, pils, wheat beer, lager and an own festival beer.

At Starkenberg Castle you can also immerse into a special world of experience which is called "Starkenberg Beer Myth". Since 2005 all manner of interesting things about the long art of brewing tradition, which started already in 1810 here, are shown on 4,000 sqm. The 700 metres long round tour leads through 18 rooms. You can visit the panorama room with a gorgeous view on the Gurgltal valley, the brewhouse with the copper kettles, a room with the ancient refrigerating compressor of Carl Linde, the ice cellar from the 16th century, the chapel, the medieval arches of the castle and the modern brewery.

The highlight of the Starkenberg Beer Myth is the Beer Bath in the old fermentation cellar. This is the first beer swimming pool in the world, designed by the artist Wernfried Poschusta. 12,000 litres of water and 300 litres of beer yeast are filled into the pool which can be used by booking in advance. The healing effect of the yeast has been known for a long time. A bath is recommended when suffering from psoriasis and other skin diseases. On the contrary, the containing carbonic acid helps the blood circulation and cares for smooth skin. The visit is rounded off by the own brewery shop, where the products of the Starkenberg Brewery and other delicacies are offered.
