It is considered to have the most beautiful cross-country ski slopes and ski tours of the southern Alps - we are talking about Mt. Thurntaler, the local mountain of the Hochpustertal valley in East Tyrol. The Hochpustertaler Bergbahnen lift facilities take you into the ski center Sillian, where 22.5 km of ski slopes stretch to Sillian and the Villgratental valley. One of them is the Kammabfahrt, which overcomes a drop of 1,300 m, representing the longest ski run of the area. And if you want to try your first swings, the Hochpustertal Ski School helps you with the right technique.
Famous is also the Yellowsnow Fun Park Hochpustertal, the southernmost Snow Park of Austria. It offers a 130 m long mogul slope, kicker, ski cross, a tunnel and several obstacles. The special freestyle and free-ride camps are well-known, taking place in Christmas holidays, semester breaks and Easter break. In two-day or four-day camps, professionals are going to give you advice. Families can look forwards to the children’s areal, the Bobo Kids Park and the ski kindergarten. The child-friendly rates include free skiing for kids up to 6 years if accompanied by an adult, whereas kids between 6 and 18 years get reduced prices of 50%.
The German web portal skiresort.de named the Sillian Hochpustertal skiing area the world’s best skiing area (up to 30 km of slopes) in 2019. The Snow Card Tyrol (more than 90 skiing areas in Tyrol), the “SkiHit East Tyrol” ski pass (9 skiing areas in East Tyrol and Carinthia) and the Top Ski Pass Carinthia-East Tyrol (31 skiing areas, 24 in Carinthia and 7 in East Tyrol) are valid here.
In order to protect the health of guests and the local population, the winter season 2019/20 will be closed earlier this year, on 16 March 2020. This is a preventive measure against the further spread of the COVID-19 disease.
