In the Pillersee Valley in the border triangle Tyrol-Salzburg-Bavaria, a skiing area is located on a sunny high plateau: Mt. Steinplatte. The 42 km of ski slopes and 3 km ski routes are accessible by the 15-seater Steinplatte Gondola which starts in the village centre of Waidring, or from the Bavarian Winklmoos Pasture. Therefore, two skiing areas can be used with a combined ski pass.
Carvers love the wide slopes, and freeriders the deep-snow slopes of the Schwarzlofer Pasture. The 1.5 km long Steinplatte Snow Park is popular among the boarders, combining the best elements of snow park and boardercross for plenty of winter fun. Numerous ski huts provide sustenance with Tyrolean and Bavarian delicacies, such as "Kasspatzln" (cheese gnocchi) and "Tiroler Gröstl" (meat with potatoes), among them the Kammerkör, Stallenalm and Möseralm Huts.
Children, however, can look forward to the Triassi Kinderland on the ski school area and to the Hausberg Arena in the centre of Waidring. Childcare is also offered at the Triassic Parc Steinplatte, the adventure land which is open all year round, and which invites to enjoy the highest-located sand beach of the Alps in summer. Furthermore there are family-friendly ski lifts and ski slopes. A winter walk takes you from the mountain station to the coral-shaped panoramic platform. Mt. Steinplatte is one of the eight skiing areas within the famous 3 Country Leisure Arena.
