Grossglockner Resort ski region - East Tyrol

The Grossglockner Resort, the largest skiing area of East Tyrol, can be reached from Matrei in Osttirol and Kals am Grossglockner.

A few years ago, the skiing areas Kals am Grossglockner and Matreier Goldried formed the new Grossglockner Resort, connected with each other by the 2,405 m high Mt. Cimaross. The spectacular deep powder snow slopes and the three downhill runs will make you get even more enthusiastic. The two black ski-runs at the Cimaross lift, however, are for sure a unique experience for pros. Also off the slopes this region builds on soft winter sports and offers the possibility to make winter hikes and sled rides, go ice skating and try cross-country skiing.

Some 43.5 km of well groomed ski slopes - which can be completely be covered with artificial snow if necessary - are available, as well as 18 lift facilities. One of them is the chairlift "Goldried2", which is by the way the first heatable 6-seater chair lift in East Tyrol. At the Goldried mountain station at 2,600 m a.s.l. you can enjoy a fantastic panoramic view of 60 majestic peaks and the Adler Lounge, a gourmet restaurant. New in the winter season 2019/2020 are the 6-seater chairlift "Glocknerblick" in Kals and the ski track from the above mentioned Adler Lounge to Matrei.

Two areas of the ski region are dedicated to children: at the mountain station of the cable car, there is a special children's area with warming room and magic carpet. Another area is available right in the village of Kals on a sunny meadow. What is also worth mentioning are the prices for kids! The ski pass for youngsters 6-18 years is available at half the price, and for children under 6 years skiing is free. The Snow Card Tyrol (more than 90 skiing areas in Tyrol), the "SkiHit East Tyrol" ski pass (9 skiing areas in East Tyrol and Carinthia) and the Top Ski Pass Carinthia-East Tyrol (31 skiing areas, 24 in Carinthia and 7 in East Tyrol) are valid in this skiing area.

Due to the tightened measures taken on November 3, 2020 to control the coronavirus, the start of the 2020-21 winter season has been postponed to December 24, 2020. Catering and accommodation establishments will be closed until the end of February 2021.
