Hike to the Plauener Hütte mountain hut

During the ascent to the Plauener Hütte mountain hut we can enjoy an overwhelming view on the turquoise Zillergrund reservoir and numerous peaks of the Zillertal Alps.

At the Zillergrund, a side valley of the Zillertal, our hike to the 2,362 m high located Plauener Hütte mountain hut starts. The actual starting point is the Adlerblick tavern at the dam wall of the Zillergründl reservoir, accessible by bus from Mayrhofen. First we follow the gravel road on the northern shore of the reservoir for a while and go through a tunnel. Then path no. 502 branches off from the road and we walk through a forest and heath landscape to the brook.

Now the actual ascent starts. In serpentines the path proceeds up the rocky slope, the few exposed spots are secured by wire ropes. The view towards west is dominated by the turquoise shimmering Zillergründl reservoir, while from north to southeast the partly glaciated mountain peaks of the Zillertal Alps dominate the panorama: Wildgerlosspitze, Reichenspitze, Zillerspitze, Rauchkofel and many more.

The Plauener Hütte is located amidst this alpine landscape in the Zillertal Alps Nature Park. Here we stop to have a break on the sunny terrace before we walk back along the same route.
