Circular walk across the alpine pastures of Innsbruck

This hike across the alpine pastures at the foot of the Nordkette offers beautiful views on Innsbruck and the Patscherkofel mountain.

In the city centre of Innsbruck we take the bus route J and go to the valley station of the Hungerburg cable car. If you come by car, the parking space at the Spar market (near the cable car) is the best place to leave it. Past the valley station we hike along the road towards east until the marker “Arzler Alm”, there we follow the path into the forest. We reach a wide forest path which is used mainly by mountain bikers, so we choose again the narrow path through the wood.

After about half an hour we reach the first of the alpine pastures, the Arzl mountain hut (Arzler Alm, 1,067 m asl). A gorgeous sun terrace and a playground for kids wait for us here. We carry on, always with view on Innsbruck down in the valley. All paths are well-signposted. A nice walking path leads us further to the Rum mountain hut (Rumer Alm - 45 minutes, 1,243 m asl). We really deserve a break on the sun terrace. The view on the mighty peaks of the Nordkette mountain chain is impressive.

Our next destination is already the last: the Enzianhütte mountain hut (1,041 m asl). Therefore we walk back for about 10 minutes until we reach the marker “Enzianhütte”. We follow the path downhill across roots through the shady forest. Past the mountain hut we proceed through the gorge of the Mühlauer Klamm towards the Hungerburg cable car valley station which we reach after about one hour.

Notice: beautiful walking tour across alpine pastures high above the roofs of Innsbruck. All paths are well-signposted. For families especially the section from the Hungerburg cable car valley station to the Arzl mountain hut can be recommended (playground).
