Mountains, treasures, giants and gnomes are an irresistible combination for sagas and legends. High above the village of Fiss, an adventure playground with a Children's Mine, called Kinder Bergwerk Fiss, was opened some years ago. And it has a special story to tell.
The legend says, that a long time ago a giant lived in the Fiss Mountains who was called "Golden Man". More and more he grew together with the mountains until he turned into stone himself. And right in the middle of it, his heart of gold could be found. Also the gnomes searched for the heart until such time as they turned into stone themselves by the breath of the "Golden Man".
And this stone pit was converted into a particular paradise to play. The Schönjoch saddle is accessible by the Schönjoch Cable Car: It takes you to the Children's Mine with its play stations, balancing devices, climbing spots, slides, swings, and the adventure tunnel in a cave. Also the "The Golden Man Path", a theme trail suitable for prams, starts at the Children's Mine Fiss and leads past 11 interactive stations to the mountain station of the cable car (30 minutes).
