Schwendau

Schwendau includes parts of Hippach, the neighbouring village, where you can enjoy the Summer World Hippach

Altitude: 620 m a.s.l.

The holiday resort of Schwendau in the rear Zillertal valley is accessible via the Zillertal Road. The municipal area comprises numerous component localities, including parts of Hippach, and extends from the Ziller river up to the 2,590 m high Hoarberg Pass. Schwendau is closely connected to the neighbouring village of Hippach and they also share several facilities.

Worth visiting is the Schwendau Parish Church, located on an elevation in the municipal area of Hippach, while the parish house is part of the municipality of Schwendau. This church, constructed in the 13th century and dedicated to the Saints Ingenuin and Albuin, boasts three wonderful altars. After the earthquake of 1698 AD, it was restored in early Baroque style. Moreover on the top of the Burgschrofen hill, there was a castle up to the 14th century.

However, if you prefer active holidays you can look forward to the Nature Park Zillertal Alps with its 80 glaciers and numerous lakes, such as the Schlegeis Reservoir and Lake Zillergründl. They characterize the landscape. In winter, the Ski & Glacier World Zillertal 3000 is directly accessible from the village, thanks to the Horberg Cable Car. In addition there are some cross-country ski tracks in Schwendau, including the three trails leading around the Burgschrofen hill.
