In the heart of the historic village centre of Obertilliach in East Tyrol, an old barn is located. This "Lugger Stadl" was transformed into a unique museum in 2006, the Obertilliach Coach and Local Museum (Kutschen- und Heimatmuseum Obertilliach) which gives an insight into various eras.
The small museum tells about the ancient rural history of the village, and the hard living conditions of that time. The exhibits contain a harness, called "Rossekummat" in Tyrolean dialect, back baskets in which hay was carried, a wooden axle for hay carts, and sickles to cut grass.
Moreover the Coaches and Local Museum houses an impressive collection of coaches and sledges. Rural vehicles, bridal carriages and funeral coaches can be admired. In former times, wood often was transported with help of horse and cart, a quite dangerous method.
