In the Weikart Rift in Alpbach an old corn mill powered by water has been activated again

Some decades ago, still 25 mills could be found in the Alpbachtal valley, all of them powered by water. There the local farmers could grind their corn. Only the Stettauer Mill remained: Today it is known as Weikart Mill (Weikartmühle Inneralpbach) for its idyllic location in the Weikart Rift (Weikartgraben) between the villages of Alpbach and Inneralpbach.
The Alpbach Club for European Culture, supported by the municipality, rebuilt the mill on its original foundations. Today it is accessible during the demonstrations in summer, when the flour is ground like in former times. In close vicinity to the mill also the Brechelstube, the scutching room to roast flax - in order to produce linen - is located. There you can witness the process from the cultivation of flax until the weaving of linen. It features the same opening hours as the mill.
A pleasant walking tour takes you from the town hall of Alpbach across the Mühlbach Bridge to the Middle High Route and to the gorgeous Kramerhof farm. It proceeds further towards Inneralpbach and past the Weikart Mill. This 4 km long hike takes 1.5 hours.
