One of the most beautiful high mountain roads in the Alps takes you from the Kaunertal valley up to an altitude of almost 3,000 metres

In Feichten, in the middle of the Kaunertal Nature Park and Glacier Region, one of the absolute natural sights in Tyrol begins: the Kaunertal Glacier Road (Kaunertaler Gletscherstrasse), which leads up to 2,750 m a.s.l. to the edge of the Eternal Ice. Here stretches the Kaunertal Glacier, Tyrol's youngest glacier, where Austria's highest post bus stop is also located. The high mountain road is sometimes called the "most beautiful dead-end road in the Alps".
The 26 km long drive on the toll glacier road overcomes 29 bends and an impressive altitude difference of about 1,500 metres. It takes you past natural beauties such as Lake Gepatsch, a reservoir that feeds the Kaunertal Power Plant, the Weisssee (literally: White Lake), the Schwarzsee (Black Lake) and the Ferner Garten Waterfall. 29 stations along the panorama road tell of the beauty of this area in the Kaunertal valley and its natural and cultural landscape.
If you want, you can add another experience afterwards: The Karlesjoch Cable Car takes you from the edge of the glacier up to 3,100 m a.s.l., where a spectacular view on the border triangle of Italy, Switzerland and Tyrol awaits you. Here, from October onwards, skiers also romp about.
