The charming holiday resort Alpbach is located in the Alpbachtal valley at the foot of the Gratlspitz mountain (1,898 m asl).
Altitude: 975 m asl
In 1240 AD Alpbach has been mentioned for the first time in documents. Its Tyrolean charm has survived till today, not only because until the 1920s this village was not connected to the Inntal valley, but also due to building regulations from 1953 which stipulated constructions in wooden style. This method turned to account, as Alpbach has been declared the “most beautiful village of Austria” as well as the “most beautiful flower village of Europe”. Moreover it was setting for the well-known German TV series “Wildbach”.
Another event, however, made Alpbach famous far beyond borders, which is the “European Forum Alpbach”, to which numerous personalities of distinction of politics, culture, economy and science are invited. Also Nobel Prize laureates take part in this event. Worth to be visited is the Congress centre of Alpbach, which has largely been integrated into a slope, as well as the Vorder-Unterberg farm, offering the mountain farmers’ museum Alpbach.
In summer this village is an ideal place for those who seek relaxation, not only due to the numerous trails in the surrounings and its beautiful mountains. If you plan family vacations we also recommend you to visit the adventure playground “Lauserland” at the mountain station of the Wiedersbergerhornbahn funicular. Even special “Lauserland” weeks for kids with the mascot “Lauser” are offered. However, skiing at Alpbach stands for skiing in the Ski Jewel Alpbachtal Wildschönau with 109 km of ski slopes.
Our recommendation: if you plan your holidays in this charming little village you get the “Alpbachtal Card” for free. This card brings along several reductions and benefits!
