St. Jakob in Haus

St. Jakob in Haus, located in the beautiful Pillersee valley, is the smallest municipality belonging to the district of Kitzbühel.

Altitude: 856 m asl

Between St. Ulrich am Pillersee and Fieberbrunn, there is the little mountain village of St. Jakob in Haus, located on a sunny plateau in the Pillersee valley. Already in the 10th century, this village was settled and today numerous hamlets and settlements are part of St. Jakob in Haus, including Moosbach and Mühlau. The emblem of the municipality depicts i.a. the local patron saint St. Jacob in the form of three scallops (”Jakobsmuschel” in German).

In summer the Pillersee valley is particularly popular with families. St. Jakob in Haus offers exciting experiences in the FamilyWorld PillerseeTal, a great playground for children, offering also a 1,000 sqm indoor playground, a pirate ship, a large petting zoo as well as the new “Big Bang” roller-coaster. Emphasis is above all put on a healthy combination of movements as well as appropriate see-saws. There is also a hard pitch in the centre of the village for those who love playing tennis, and those who prefer walking or jogging will love the 3.8 km long trail of Rot/ Mühlau. This course boasts an altitude difference of 80 m and starts and ends close to the local church.

Winter is also a pleasant season in this area, thanks also to the skiing area Buchensteinwand - Pillersee Tal, comprising the three villages of St. Ulrich am Pillersee, St. Jakob in Haus and Hochfilzen, as well as the cross-country ski tracks and winter hiking trails, connected to the trail network snaking in the valley. Furthermore there is the 1.5 km long natural toboggan run St. Jakob in Haus, which stays illuminated till 11 pm. And finally an interesting detail: Christian Reithmann, watchmaker and founder of the four-stroke engine (which then failed in the patent quarrel with Nikolaus Otto), was born at St. Jakob in Haus in 1818!

Our recommendation: the Bobo children’s park at the lower terminus of the Pillersee funicular is the largest Bobo children’s park all over Tyrol, offering some 20 attractions on a surface of 30,000 sqm…
