Aurach bei Kitzbühel

One of the most popular destinations in Aurach is the game enclosure above the village, the largest one of Tyrol

Altitude: 846 m a.s.l.

About 5 km from Kitzbühel there is Aurach bei Kitzbühel. Unteraurach, Oberaurach and several scattered hamlets form the municipality, a charming holiday resort. Once upon a time, more precisely from the second millennium BC on, mining was the main source of revenue, especially in the Kelchalm area. Still today, the appearance of the village is characterised by century-old farms.

Especially popular is a visit to the Aurach Wildlife Park, located above the village. Some 200 animals of the Alps such as red deer, ibexes, wild boars and lynxes, but also more exotic animals such as llamas and yaks live in this park. Moreover, the "Streichstadl", where kids can experience guinea pigs, sheep and other animals at close quarters, awaits you. The rut time in autumn is the quietest period of the year, but in the other saisons you may watch the feeding of wild game.

As the village is located right in the heart of the Kitzbühel Alps, it is a perfect starting point for hikes and MTB tours, such as the one to the Oberkaser Mountain Hut in the Kelchalmgraben (1,743 m a.s.l.), featuring a wonderful view on Mt. Wilder Kaiser and the surrounding peaks. Also in winter, the mountains determine activities, but not only with their stunning ski slopes. Near the village there's also the 3.8 km long toboggan run Kelchalm, an adventure for the whole family.
