The lake of Tristach, located in the homonymous municipality, is the only lake for bathing in East Tyrol.
In the municipality of Tristach, located only a few km from Lienz, there is a lake called Tristacher See. The Dolomites of Lienz frame the lake and make the scenery especially impressive. The lake is by the way fed by two natural tributaries. Lake Tristach is a popular leisure time destination, both with adults and kids, above all in summer months, as it is the only lake for bathing in Tyrol. Its waters reach a temperature of 24 degrees C, moreover it is of excellent quality.
Beside a pleasant bath in the lake you can also relax on the lawn for sunbathing. For children, there is a childrens' playground. If you would like to move and do some sports, there are a beach volley field and table tennis tables. To make the offer in the lido complete, there is a nice terrace café. Moreover you can enjoy walking round the waters on the shady trail that takes round the lake. In a short walk, you reach the "Alter See" biotope with its botanic trail. You can access Lake Tristach from the village of Tristach and park at the parking space Seewiese (subject to charge in high season). Otherwise you have the possibility to use the free bus service, which runs regularly and represents an environmentally-friendly alternative to the car.
When winter draws in, the lake freezes, transforming into an ice skating ground. More action is provided by the nearby Dolomite toboggan run or the Zettersfeld-Hochstein skiing area. By the way: also a camping site is located at the lakeside. Would you like to make a natural experience of the special kind?!
