Tobadill

The idyllic holiday resort of Tobadill has officially been mentioned for the first time in 1275 AD.

Altitude: 1,136 m asl

The municipality of Tobadill is located on a forested hill between Perfuchsberg and the entrance to the Paznauntal valley. It is a scattered settlement whose name goes back to the terms “taveldilli” or “tabulat ill”, which means “little hay barn”. Once upon a time in the Flath area iron spar and pyrite were exploited.

For those who love culture, there are two interesting buildings to visit: on the one hand the Trisanna bridge of the Arlbergbahn railway, located between the two stations Pians and Strengen. The bridge, 231 m long and 86 m high and characterised by stone arches, spans the Trisanna river and is a popular photo motif. On the other hand, at the eastern bridgehead, there is Castle Wiesberg, rising on a rock in the municipal area of Tobadill. This castle, which is in private hands today, has probably been constructed in the 13th century by the Chur bishopric and is also depicted on the emblem of the village as red silhouette. The black head of the unicorn, however, refers to the heraldic animal of the Lords of this castle.

Surrounded by green meadows and forests as well as crystal clear mountain air and located far away from hustle and bustle, Tobadill is a perfect place for those who seek relaxation! The surrounding mountains offer numerous hiking trails and possibilities for mountaineering as well as cycling. If you seek a refreshment in summertime, there are three outdoor pools available in the environs: in the city of Landeck and in the villages Fliess and Grins. Also hang-gliding and climbing are popular actives. Moreover, where the rivers Rosanna and Trisanna join to form the Sanna river, you can try rafting and kayaking. In winter, however, thanks to the location of the village, the skiing areas of Ischgl and St. Anton am Arlberg are within easy reach.

Our recommendation: the “TyrolWestCard”, which is available for free for all guests of this area, offers fantastic reductions and free services!
