Prutz

Along the Via Claudia Augusta there is the Prutzer Sauerbrunn, a spring which is considered to contain very healthy and acidic water

Altitude: 866 m a.s.l.

Prutz is located at the entrance of the Kaunertal valley. It was mentioned for the first time in 1028 AD, but already before this date - more precisely in the period of time of the Carolingians - Prutz was an area where people used to stop. Later on it served as a posting station. At the beginning of the 20th century, a fire devastated great parts of the village, but the ancient village-scape with its typical West Tyrolean characteristics could fortunately be preserved.

Due to its position, in summer Prutz is a popular starting point for hikes and MTB tours in the Kaunertal valley and in the tri-border region between Austria, Italy and Switzerland. On the valley floor, the Inn Cycle Route - Tiroler Oberland leads you in a pleasant tour to Innsbruck. And after an active day, the Prutz Adventure Pool with its water slide offers a welcome refreshment.

Swiftwater Rescue in Prutz, however, gives you an opportunity to experience an extra dose of adrenaline during a rafting tour on the Inn river. When winter comes, the village makes part of the Fendels Skiing Area, which forms with the glacier at the head of the valley the Kaunertal Glacier - Fendels Skiing Area. Snow-shoe tours and winter hikes complete the winter offer.
