Walchsee is located near the eponymous lake with the largest moor landscape of North Tyrol

Walchsee is a small village near from Kufstein on the border to the German Chiemgau. According to a legend, once upon a time there has been a large forest on the place where the lake is siutated today. Two farmers wanted to own the forest. During a struggle for the possession of this forest, the farmers got caught in a thunderstorm, which ended up in a huge bang. At the place where the farmers had struggled before, a large spring gaped and flooded the area. Lake Walchsee appeared, but the farmers have never appeared again in this area...

A wave of Lake Walchsee is also illustrated on the coat of arms, and of course the lake is first-choice destination in summer. Boasting an average temperature of 24 degrees C, it is not only perfect for bathing, but also for rowing, sailing and waterskiing. Near Walchsee you can discover the Schwemm, the largest moor landscape of North Tyrol. You need a rush of adrenaline? So come to the Zahmer Kaiser Leisure Centre, where you can have fun on two summer sledge tracks.

In winter, the lift facilites take you to the Zahmer Kaiser Skiing Area, but fun and action is also provided by four toboggan runs and the ski huts of the area. Due to the fact that Walchsee, Rettenschöss, Kössen and Schwendt joined in the holiday area Kaiserwinkl, you might get discounts for several services and outdoor activities such as the great cross-country ski network.
