The holiday resort of Sautens, located at 812 m asl, is located at the entrance of the beautiful Oetztal valley.
Altitude: 812 m asl
Sautens, located right at the entrance of the Oetztal valley, is made up of several different villages. Thanks to its mild climate it is well-suited to fruit-growing and parts of the fruits growing in this place are used to produce a schnaps called “Obstler”. The area of Sautens is considered to having been settled already in prehistoric times, the name of the village is probably of pre-Roman origin.
Worth to be visited is on the one hand the old parish church dating back to 1517 AD, on the other hand the new parish church built in late Classicism construction style, which is one of the most beautiful churches all over Tyrol. At Sautens vacationists benefit from all the possibilities that are available in the Oetztal valley, regarding leisure time activities, such as hiking in the great mountains, cycling and mountain biking. If you prefer swimming we recommend you to visit the leisure time centre of Sautens, offering two heated pools as well as a pool for children. Another popular destination is also Lake Piburg, which is located only a stone’s throw from the village.
Located at the entrance of the valley, Sautens offers two skiing areas, which are connected by a free shuttle service: on the one hand the skiing region Hochoetz (2 km) offering a ski kindergarden and childcare at the mountain restaurant, on the other hand the Kühtai skiing area (18 km). Within half-an- hour car drive you can reach further 8 skiing areas! Sautens itself offers a illuminated sledge track as well as a curling track. Cross-country ski trails and winter hiking trails make your holidays even more pleasant.
Our recommendation: the geologic educational trail Forchet, snaking in the protected area of Forchet, is accessible from the village and offers some nice places to relax. Really recommendable!
