Reith bei Seefeld

Along the beautiful hike to the Seefeld Lakes there is Lake Wildsee with the respective natural reserve Reither Moor.

Altitude: 1,180 m a.s.l.

At the southern edge of the Seefeld Plateau rises Reith bei Seefeld: Its name means "deforested place" in German language. The village lies in the heart of the Olympic Region Seefeld, at the foot of Mt. Reither Spitze (2,374 m a.s.l.) - a perfect place for outdoor activities in every season.

Since 1350 AD, in Reith fossil oil has been extracted and processed by the Maximilianshütte. This "Tiroler Steinöl" - Tyrolean Fossil Oil - is obtained from oil shale and is today mainly used in the health sector and spa, e.g. to alleviate rheumatism. There is also a legend regarding the extraction of fossil oil: A long time ago, there was a struggle between two giants above Reith, in which the giant Thyrsus wanted to defend his territory against the invader Haymo. In that fight, Thyrsus was fatally wounded, and from this point in this area the healing "Thyrsus Blood" has been extracted.

Active holidays and sightseeing can be perfectly combined at Reith bei Seefeld: The Bee Nature Trail provides on 10 stations an insight into the fascinating life of wild bees. Also another path, the Culture Trail, takes you across 10 stations - in this case past historic monuments, such as the milestone and the Giant House. In winter, feel like an Olympic athlete in the Olympic Region Seefeld Skiing Area. Furthermore, Reith features the natural toboggan run Reitherjoch Alm.
