The cycle path leading through the Ranzental valley to Vils is a natural continuation of the Lech Cycle Route R9 from Steeg via Reutte to Musau. The tour starts in Lechaschau near Reutte, where we follow the R9 cycle route downstream towards north until we reach the village of Hinterbichl and further on through the forest to Oberletzen, Rossschläg, Brandstatt and Musau. The R8 cycle path starts at the junction after the bend near the hamlet of Riedle. The gravel road leads into the small Ranzental valley on the western side of the Ranzen, a forested hill and natural border to the Lechtal valley.
After a small and gentle uphill section through the woodland and meadow landscape we reach Vils. The small city on the border to the Bavarian Allgäu offers an interesting local museum. The R8 cycle path continues through the Vilstal valley towards west, running on the side of the Allgäu road. After the German border, the cycle route reaches Pfronten, a village which offers connections to other cycle paths and MTB trails, e.g. towards the Tannheimer Tal valley.
