The Galitzen Gorge, or Galitzenklamm, with its Water Experience Trail is located in the Lienz Dolomites in East Tyrol.
Close to the villages of Leisach and Amlach, at about 700 m a.s.l., you can find the entrance of the Galitzen Gorge. This impressive canyon was already opened up in the 19th century, when the visitors still had to admire the natural monument from little stairs and ladders. Today, however, you can comfortably glimpse into the canyon from trails stretching along the rock faces.
But the Galitzen Gorge has got much more to offer, as there is also a Water Experience Trail, a Water Play Area, the Galitzenklamm Climbing Park, several via ferratas and a tavern. The theme trail, which is also interesting for kids, provides useful information on animals living in this area as well as the local vegetation. Moreover you get to know more about the century-old history of the stunning gorge. Also five fixed rope routes lead through it gorge:
The very difficult Via Ferrata Adrenaline, the Via Ferrata Dopamine with its “Götterquergang” passage and the “Der Masochist”, a partly overhanging cliff passage in level E, the 1.5 hours long Via Ferrata Endorphin (ascent C, descent A/B) and the beautiful Via Ferrata Galitzenklamm as well as the Family Via Ferrata, suitable for kids from 10 years. A unique adventure!
