The ghost of the gorge and his goblins warmly welcome you in the Leutaschklamm, the Spirit Gorge.
In the Olympic region Seefeld, in Leutasch, you can visit a very impressive canyon. The parking space and the gate to the legendary Spirit Gorge are located in the district of Schanz, close to the German border. This is also where the walk across the world of ghosts and elfs starts…
It’s an eerie place and a world of water and stone: in the Leutasch Spirit Gorge (Leutascher Geisterklamm, in German) a ghost is up to mischief. This is where it lives together with gorge goblins and water dwarfs. What is so particular in the 75 metres deep canyon is its modern steel footbridge, as normally wooden footpaths and bridges are installed - in summer months it leads you the way high above the Leutascher Ache river and along the majestic rock faces.
The Leutaschklamm can be explored on three different paths: the 3 km long Spirit Gorge Trail (Klammgeistweg) includes an 800 m long walkway. The information panels along the 1.9 km long Goblin Trail (Koboldpfad), however, tell about the stones and rocks in the gorge, and about the glaciers which formed the gorge during the last Ice Age. It leads from the little shop at the entrance to the gorge in Mittenwald into the mighty canyon. The third path, the 200 m long Waterfall Trail (Wasserfallsteig, admission fee), ends at the 23 m high waterfall. Have fun!
