Brixlegg

Brixlegg, the partner village of Aichach in Swabia/Germany, is located at the entrance of the Alpbachtal valley.

Altitude: 534 m asl

The market town of Brixlegg is located in the lower Inntal valley and is one of the oldest settlement areas of Tyrol. In 788 AD “Prisslech”, like it was then called, was mentioned for the first time. Brixlegg was above all known for copper mining and also the largest smelter was located in this place. The copper refinery that developed out of this structure, the “Montanwerke Brixlegg AG”, is today Austria’s only copper plant.

This charming village has everything that makes your holidays varied and interesting: a large number of hiking trails can be found in the surroundings, modern specialist shops provide micropolis flair, numerous cafés and restaurants - by the way also the only starred restaurant of the area - invite you to spoil your palate, and in winter the Ski Jewel Alpbachtal Wildschönau, offering 109 km of ski slopes and 45 lift facilities, makes you spend great days on skis. As we are talking about winter sports: this is the place where the former ski races and Olympic champion Stefan Eberharter comes from. However, also in the skateboard scene Brixlegg is a well-known place, because in the fantastic “Cradle Skatepark” skateboarders can nearly ride headfirst.

You are more interested in culture? In this case we recommend you to visit the ruins of Mehrenstein and Kropfsberg, and also Castle Matzen with its beautiful parkway is located only a stone’s throw away. Further witnesses of former times in the municipality are the mansions Grasegg and Landegg and the coppersmith building dating back to the 17th century. These buildings are particularly significant due to the fact that Brixlegg has been destroyed in great parts in WWII.

Our recommendation: the curative sulfur spring Bad Mehrn today is a health centre with sauna and solarium. This is where various therapies, massages and beauty treatments are offered.
