MTB tour via Kelchsau to the Tiefental Alm hut

This easy to moderate mountain bike tour through the Langer Grund valley in the Kitzbühel Alps takes us from Hopfgarten to the Erla-Brenn Mountain Hut and the Tiefental Mountain Hut

In Hopfgarten we cycle up the valley on the road to Kelchsau. The Kelchsau road (L205) accompanies us through the winding valley to the meadows around the village, and on to Innerkelchsau to the parking space at the Zwiesel power station. Passing the toll station for cars we come to the junction of the Kurzer Grund and Langer Grund valleys. Here we turn right towards the Langer Grund. With a steady, gentle gradient (average about 3.5%) we cycle through a landscape where alpine meadows and forests alternate.

The asphalt ends at the Moderstock tavern, and the route continues on a gravel road towards southwest. After the Erlauer Mountain Hut (snack station Erla-Brennhütte) we reach the Erlau Mountain Huts, and the road continues to a bridge over the Langer-Grund-Ache stream. A short, steep ascent follows and we have reached our destination, the Tiefental Mountain Hut (Tiefental Alm). The way back to Hopfgarten im Brixental follows the same path.
