Brandenberg

Brandenberg extends on a sunny elevated plain, only a stone’s throw from Kramsach.

Altitude: 919 m asl

The municipal area of Brandenberg consists of the five villages Aschau, Pinegg, Oberberg, Unterberg and Dorf. First mentioned in 1140 AD the village, which mainly is comprised of forest, has been a centre for lumber industry up to the mid 20th century. The tree trunks used to be transported on the Brandenberger Ache river.

A popular activity in summertime is hiking, as there are popular destinations in the surroundings such as the Erzherzog-Johann chasm and the Tiefenbach and Kaiserklamm gorges. The latter as well as the 500-year-old “Kaiserhaus” house are meant to remind of the Emperor Franz Joseph I, who started his hunt in this area. The gorge can be experienced along the existing trails, and also kayak tours and rafting as well as wild water swimming are possible. Those who seek refreshment can look forward to the Brandenberger Ache river or the nearby lakes with Lake Reintaler, Krummsee and Berglsteinersee. By the way, from Brandenberg you can also access the Bike Trail Tirol and the famous Eagle Walk!

In winter the environs of Brandenberg offer great cross-country trails as well as winter hiking trails taking promenaders across the snow-covered and scenic landscape. Likewise popular are the exercising ski slope with ski lift in the village as well as the 1.5 km long illuminated toboggan run Brandenberg. And if it gets too cold, we recommend you to simply warm up with a mulled wine in the refuge at the toboggan run. Furthermore, every guest of the beautiful Alpbachtal valley gets the so-called “Alpbachtal Seenland Card”, which makes you benefit from various benefits, e.g. free use of the ice curling facilities in Brandenberg.

Our recommendation: a real delicacy of Brandenberg is the so-called “Prügeltorte” cake, also known as “Baumkuchen”, which is a kind of layered cake, baked on the open flame. The basic ingredients of this cake are butter, eggs, sugar, vanilla, salt and flour.
