Breitenbach am Inn

As the name reveals, Breitenbach am Inn with its Lake Berglsteiner is located in idyllic position along the riverbank of the Inn

Altitude: 510 m a.s.l.

On the sunny side of the Inn Valley, at the Inn riverbank opposite Kundl, there is the holiday resort Breitenbach am Inn. Together with its component localities Dorf, Kleinsöll, Schönau, Glatzham and Haus, it forms one of the largest municipalities in this district: It covers an area of 38 sqkm. Its St. Peter Parish Church is one of the oldest churches of the Tyrolean Unterland area.

In former times, the village gained in importance due to shipping on the Inn river, as names such as "Schopperwirt" ("Schopper" = ship builder) reveal. Culture and tradition are still cared for by local associations. A popular hiking destination is the Asperhof, a tavern with small riding stable along the way to the Berglstein Nature Reserve with its Lake Berglsteiner. In former times, the farmstead was known for its comprehensive collection of restored puppets and toys.

If you would like to enjoy the view on the Inn Valley, we recommend you to hike to the local mountain, which is the 1,743 m high Plessenberg, or "Plessinger". In winter, the hiking trails in the surroundings are particularly popular, furthermore the village offers the 13.8 km long Schönauer cross-country ski trail, connected to the trail network of Angerberg-Mariastein.
