Breitenbach am Inn

As the name reveals, Breitenbach am Inn is located in idyllic position along the left riverbank of the Inn.

Altitude: 510 m asl

On the sunny side of the Inntal valley, at the Inn riverbank opposite Kundl, there is the municipality of Breitenbach am Inn, including the localities Dorf, Kleinsöll, Schönau, Glatzham and Haus. Extending on an area of 38 sqkm, it is one of the largest municipalities in this district.

In former times the village gained in importance due to shipping on the Inn river, as names such as “Schopperwirt” (”Schopper” means ship builder) reveal. The emblem of the municipality depicts the name- giving Breitenbach river, as well as a fish, pointing at its richness in fish. Culture and tradition are still cared for by local associations resulting in Breitenbach am Inn having been awarded as “European Municipality”. A popular attraction is the puppet museum with petting zoo, located on the way to the natural reserve “Berglstein” at the Asperhof farm. This museum hosts a comprehensive collection of restored puppets and toys. A tavern offering local products provides for creature comforts after a visit.

If you would like to enjoy the view on the Inntal valley, we recommend you to hike to the local mountain, which is the 1,743 m high Plessenberg mountain, or “Plessinger”. For those who prefer it more pleasant, there is for example beautiful Lake Berglsteinersee. In winter the winter hiking trails in the surroundings are particularly popular, and the village also offers the 15 km long Schönauer cross-country ski trail, connected to the trail network of Angerberg-Mariastein.

Our recommendation: we warmly recommend you to visit the S. Petrus parish church, which is one of the oldest churches of the Tiroler Unterland area! The Baroque church was built by Georg Hueber from 1737-39, but a church in Breitenbach has already been mentioned in 1157 AD.
