Description

Never heard of the "Bloch"? It is the 35-metre-long stone pine trunk that carnival participants in Fiss painstakingly manoeuvre out of the village to welcome spring.

The Fiss Blochziehen is one of Tyrol's oldest and most significant carnival traditions, taking place only every four years. At its centre is a decorated tree trunk – the so-called "Bloch" – which is pulled through the village by unmarried men. The procession is accompanied by traditional figures, music, humorous performances, and a wealth of rural customs.

The custom symbolises the transition from winter to spring and simultaneously serves as an expression of cohesion, zest for life, and tradition. For both locals and visitors, the Blochziehen is a special experience, providing a deep insight into the culture of the Tyrolean Oberland. Sociability, music, and communal celebration make this event a memorable highlight in Fiss's event calendar.
