Not only a skiing area, but a whole ski world expects you in the Zillertal valley, as the Ski and Glacier World Zillertal 3000 connects three skiing areas round St. Johann - all accessible via one skipass only. Due to the exceptional altitude of this ski carousel, lack of snow is off the cards.
One of the highlights of the skiing area is the “150 Tux”, the second largest aerial tramway of Austria, connecting Penken/Mayrhofen and the Rastkogel/Tux. Adrenaline junkies can risk skiing on the “Harakiri” slope, which is the steepest slope of Austria. You will need nerves of steel in order to conquer this slope! This ski run is characterized by a downhill gradient of 78% and a length of 1 km and it is steeper than an approach of a ski jump! Puh! You will get weak in the knees! Are you a speed-skier? Then you can try skiing on the race tracks Penken, Sunjet or Unterberg.
However, those who do not want to break out in a cold sweat can enjoy various pleasant ski routes, offering a great panoramic view on the surroundings : the “XXL route” offers red slopes and the “Penken Ski Route” takes you across simple, blue slopes. Slightly more challenging is the so called “Höhenmeterfresser route”, in which you overcome about 13,000 metres of altitude. This ski route includes red and black ski slopes. And really hard is the “fun and action route”, which also includes the feared “Harakiri” slope.
The absolute highlight is the Hintertux glacier, the only year-round skiing area of Tyrol, offering slopes as far as the eyes can see. Enjoy a fabulous panoramic view from the Dolomites to the Zugspitze mountain. In winter there are 21 modern lift facilities available, while in spring and summer about 60 km of ski slopes are available. Summer provides ski fun on 18 km. Snowboarders will feel at ease in the world cup half pipe at the T-bar lift Olperer and the Snowpark Hintertux.
> By the way: information scouts who are familiar with the area are also on the ski slopes, if you need information or help, just ask!
