Summer Solstice Fires - Wilder Kaiser

On the evening of the longest day of the year, the Hartkaiserbahn cable car takes visitors from Ellmau up to the Hartkaiser (1,553 metres). The large solstice fire is lit there before nightfall, at around 8 pm, joining the many other mountain fires across the peaks of the Wilder Kaiser and the Kitzbühel Alps.

This centuries-old custom was originally used to ward off spirits and demons. It will be interesting to see which fire motifs illuminate the mountains this year.
