Lake Walchsee

The Walchsee, a popular lake for bathing, is located at the identically named village Walchsee in the Kaiserwinkl area

Lake Walchsee was already mentioned in the 14th century as Walgsee and Walichsee, a name which derives from Roman descendants which used to be called Wallen or Walchen. The lake has become the symbol of the entire area and it is also the reason why the village is called in this way: Walchsee. On the coat of arms of the village, the Walchsee is illustrated as a blue wave.

There are sereval places, so-called "beaches" and subject to charge, where you can swim, relax and enjoy the sun. On the waters of Lake Walchsee, you can often see inflatable boats: With a water temperature of 24 degrees C, it is a popular bathing lake. The Sea Promenade takes you around the lake, and further on, if you want to take a hike into the fabulous world of the Kaiser Mountains.

On a penisula a at the west lakeside, however, there is a little moor with rare plant species, among which the bog rosemary and the cranberry. Additional to it, in the north west of the village Walchsee there is the so-called "Schwemm", North Tyrol's largest moor landscape, representing the habitat for rare animal and plant species. This area is for instance the only breeding habitat for common snipes. Also the sundew, a carnivorous plant, grows here.
