St. Jakob in Haus 2010

St. Jakob in Haus

St. Jakob in Haus, located in the beautiful Pillersee valley, is the smallest locality belonging to the district of Kitzbühel.

Altitude: 856 m asl

Between St. Ulrich am Pillersee and Fieberbrunn, there is the little mountain village of St. Jakob, located on a sunny plateau. Already in the 10th century, this village was settled and today numerous hamlets and settlements are part of St. Jakob (see pic), including Moosbach and Mühlau. The local patron saint is St. Jacob.

In summer the Pillersee valley is particularly popular with families. St. Jakob in Haus offers exciting experiences in the “Familienland PillerseeTal”, a great playground for children, offering also a 1,000 sqm indoor playground, a pirate ship, a large petting zoo as well as a roller-coaster. Emphasis is above all put on a healthy combination of movements as well as appropriate see-saws. There is also a hard pitch in the centre of the village for those who love playing tennis, and those who prefer walking or jogging will love the 3.8 km long trail of Rot/ Mühlau. This course boasts an altitude difference of 80 m and starts and ends close to the church of St. Jakob.

Winter is also a pleasant season in this area, thanks also to the skiing area Buchensteinwand, comprising the three villages of St. Ulrich, St. Jakob and Hochfilzen, as well as 6 km of cross-country ski tracks and 10 km of winter hiking trails. Cross-country ski trails and hiking trails are of course connected to the trail network snaking in the surroundings. And finally an interesting detail: Christian Reithmann, watchmaker and founder of the four-stroke engine (which then failed in the patent quarrel with Nikolaus Otto), was born at St. Jakob in 1818.

Our tip: The Bobo children’s park at the lower terminus of the Pillersee funicular is the largest Bobo children’s park all over Tyrol, offering some 20 attractions on a surface of 30,000 sqm…
