The Stubai Glacier (see pic), located only a stone’s throw from Innsbruck, is able to satisfy all your needs with 110 km of varied ski slopes and challenging ski tracks in an altitude ranging from 1,750 m and 3,210 m asl. However, the toughest run is the “Fernau Mauer” boasting a length of 4 km, while the longest run is the “Wilde Grube” featuring 10 km.
The Stubai Glacier funicular has been put into operation in 1973 and originally ended at the altitude of the Dresdner refuge. Nowadays the 25 ski lifts can be found on the Dauerferner, Eisjochferner, Gaiskarferner, Fernauferner and Windachferner mountains. Up to 2002 the Stubai Glacier was skiable the whole year round, now the skiing area is accessible (only) from October to June.
On 3,000 m asl you can rent your skiing equipment, likewise at the mountain station Eisgrat and there are also three service stations. Moreover there is the fun park Stubai Zoo for snowboarders featuring banked cross, rails and many more obstacles. Racers will enjoy the race course at the Eisjochferner. At the Stubai Glacier, there is also the highest located mountain restaurant throughout Austria: the “Jochdohle” (3,150 m asl)!
However, not only experts feel at ease on the glacier slopes, but also ski-kids, which are cared for in the BIG FAMILY and Youth Ski Camp by professional ski instructors. While your kids enjoy playing and painting at the mountain station Gamsgarten, mummy and daddy can carelessly enjoy skiing.
