Kaunertal Glacier

The Kaunertal Glacier, an eldorado for winter sports enthusiasts, is accessible on the Kaunertal Glacier Road, a panorama road

The high alpine paradise of the Kaunertal Glacier is accessible since 1980 by the Kaunertal Glacier Road. It reveals a year-round mountain world to you, from the valley up to an elevation of 2,750 m a.s.l., directly on the edge of the glacial wall of the Weisseeferner Glacier. In the course of its 26 km it features a total of 29 bends and an altitude difference of ca. 1,500 metres.

The constantly snow and ice-covered glacier, which is kind of symbol of the Kaunertal valley, shows up from afar. The Kaunertal Glacier is snow-sure from October to May, whereas you can enjoy also skiing in the Fendels Skiing Area from December to April. Both skiing areas are accessible via one skipass only. Moreover the day pass becomes cheaper from hour to hour...

Part of the Glacier Park is also the Kaunergrat Nature Park including an area of 58,920 ha. In 2003 it has been officially recognized, the idea has already been brought into being some years earlier. The nature park in the heart of the Oetztal Alps has been formed in the Ice Age and includes all altitudinal belts as well as a great number of natural monuments of incredible beauty.
