Wörgl

The small town of Wörgl with its several shopping opportunities features the second longest shopping mall of Tyrol

Altitude: 511 m a.s.l.

The holiday resort Wörgl is located at the intersection of the Brixental valley, the Söllandl area, the Inn Valley and the high valley of the Wildschönau. In 1951, the municipality became a town, but excavations prove, that in this area active trading was carrying on already in Iron Age. Moreover, a settlement dating back to Roman times is ascertainable in the municipal territory.

Particularly interesting: In 1932, the area was hit by high unemployment and public administration undertook an experiment, in which they paid out the money as complementary currency called "Wörgler Schilling". The experiment succeeded, flow of money and economy were revitalized. Today, in the town centre there are still some ancient farms, representing a contrast to other buildings which are more modern. Particularly worth to be visited is the Kanzler-Biener road.

Today, Wörgl is known as the shopping metropolis of Lower Tyrol. Here you may stroll through the Bahnhofstrasse road - the second longest shopping mall of Tyrol - and relax afterwards on one of the cosy coffee bars. Also fitness doesn't come too short: In the surroundings there are several walks and three cycle routes: the Inn Cycle Route - Tiroler Unterland, which meets in Wörgl the Brixental Cycle Route, and the Wilder Kaiser MTB Route on the sunny side of the Kaiser Mountains.
