Charming! Wörgl by night
Altitude: 511 m asl
Wörgl, the seventh largest municipality of Tyrol, is located at the intersection of the Brixental valley, Söllandl, the Inntal and Wildschönau valleys. The emblem of the village is separated into three parts: the red rafters on the top remind on the destroyed fortified castle, the golden rings below on the merging of Wörgl-Kufstein and Wörgl-Rattenberg to the municipality of Wörgl, while the wings stand for the economic boom.
Excavations prove that in the area of Wörgl, active trading was carrying on already in Iron Age. Moreover a settlement dating back to Roman times is ascertainable in the municipal territory. Particularly interesting: in 1932 the area was hit by high unemployment and public administration undertook an experiment, in which they paid out the money as complementary currency called “Wörgler Schilling”. The experiment succeeded, flow of money and economy were revitalized.
The Wörgler Wasserwelt, a leisure time facility called “Wave”, is the largest water world in the surroundings, offering 4,000 m² of adventure tubes and wellness highlights. Also the so called “sauna residence of Romans” of 2,000 m² is part of this facility. Last but not least there are several shopping opportunities such as the Bahnhofstrasse street, which is the second longest shopping mall of Tyrol, also offering restaurants and cosy cafes. Moreover a vast network of trails snakes in the surroundings, making you experience the world of Tyrolean mountains.
Our recommendation: in the centre of the city there are some ancient farms, representing a contrast to other buildings which are more modern. Particularly worth to be visited is the Kanzler-Biener road…
