Thiersee 2009

Thiersee

The Thiersee valley, located on a sunny plateau, is surrounded by gentle hills and majestic peaks.

Altitude: 790 m asl

The Thiersee valley includes a territory ranging from 616 m (lake) to 1,986 m asl. Until WWI, when the road from Kufstein to Thiersee has been built, this locality had been quite isolated and from this point of time it was “known”. From 1946 to 1952, however, it has been the centre of Austrian film production, as “Lottie and Lisa” and “Bluebeard” were shot here.

Directly at the lakeside there is the passion-play locality Vorderthiersee. This is where you can enjoy comfortable Tyrolean ambience - likewise in Landl and Hinterthiersee, both located slightly higher. The beautiful mountains and woodlands, pristine Lake Thiersee (see pic) as well as the alpine flora and fauna render this place a unique holiday resort and a paradise for nature lovers: 150 km of hiking trails make your hearts leap for joy! Other leisure time activities include horse riding, surfing, mountainbiking and playing tennis.

In winter you can choose from a variety of sking areas, for example the Schneeberg-Hagerlifte in Vorderthiersee, featuring three T-bar lifts, the Schattberglifte in Hinterthiersee, featuring three lift facilities as well, and the Sonnseitlift in Hinterthiersee with one T-bar lift. After an exhausting day on snow, stop off at one of the local restaurants in Thiersee, where you can not only enjoy local dishes, but also zither music…

Our tip: The Ackernalm pasture with own cheese factory, which can be reached from Landl, is a popular hiking destination. In the 12th century it has been mentioned for the first time. And this is only one of the farmed alpine pastures where you can stop off. Have fun exploring the great landscape on foot!
