Waidring

Waidring, located at the foot of the Loferer Steinberge mountain chain, is one of the five localities of the Pillersee Valley

Altitude: 781 m a.s.l.

Waidring is located in an idyllic position in the tri-border region Tyrol-Salzburg-Bavaria. The village was already mentioned in 1147 AD as "Waithenringen", and has been made famous due to the Austro-pop musician Wolfgang Ambros, who is part owner of the Disco Number One.

Above Waidring rises Mt. Steinplatte with a special place to visit. It is the Triassic Parc Steinplatte, which in summer offers an insight into a long gone past, when you can visit the Tethys primordial ocean and the highest-located sand beach of the Alps here. The walkable panoramic platform in the form of a coral, 70 m above the ground, is a real adrenaline rush. This popular park stays open also in winter, when the Steinplatte Skiing Area offers winter sports enthusiasts a wide choice of slopes. It is one of three skiing areas in the valley, and part of the 3 Country Leisure Arena.

Also a great variety of hiking paths, MTB trails and via ferratas await you in the Waidring Alps. One of the fixed-rope routes is called "s' Schuasta Gangl" (A-D) and can be reached best by the Steinplatte Gondola. The access is located along the Gamssteig, that's to say the Chamois Path, and if you avoid the "Knieschloderer" passage, the via ferrata is even family-friendly.
