The impressive mountain chain

Towered by the bulbous spire of the church, Going is located in idyllic position between the Kitzbühel Alps and the Wilder Kaiser mountain chain, including the hamlets Schwendt, Aschau, Prama, Sonnseite and Schattseite. “Gouwingen” was the name of the village when it was first mentioned in the 12th century. All along Going was agrarian-oriented, in the 16th and 17th century mining represented a further field of activity.
Today, both in summer and winter, Going is very popular, not least for its impressive view on the mountains. The “most beautiful natural lake for bathing of Tyrol”, the bathing lake of Going, is fed by the natural spring of the Wilder Kaiser mountain chain. The water of the lake reaches a pleasant temperature of 24 degrees and beside its white sand it also offers an adventure playground as well as the largest beach volley area of western Austria. Further nature highlights are the Schleier waterfall, which is a mekka for extreme climbers, as well as Lake Hintersteiner. The village is even famous beyond borders, thanks to the “Stanglwirt”, which celebrated its 400th anniversary in 2009. Thanks to this tavern Going is above all known in the VIP scene.
Also in 2009 “Skiresort Service International” chose its top resort, about 70 skiing areas in more than 8 countries were tested. And the best skiing area, the “top resort 2009″, is… the SkiWelt Wilder Kaiser - Brixental! The mountain funicular Ellmau-Going takes you onto the 279 km of ski slopes and also 70 refuges and huts offer perfect conditions for a pleasant day skiing. Those who prefer staying at the bottom of the valley can choose from a variety of activities, including cross-country skiing or ice skating in the middle of a forest.
Our recommendation: the local church is a masterpiece of rococo in Tyrol. Particularly worth noticing inside is the late Gothic statue of Virgin Mary.
