Leutasch 2009

Leutasch

This village of about 2,000 souls is located right in the heart of the North Tyrolean Alps.

Altitude: 1,130 m asl

26 quaint little hamlets form the municipality of Leutasch, which is located in the olympic region of Seefeld in a high valley close to the border to Bavaria/Germany. This village is above all popular due to the typical “Lüftlmalerei”, a handicraft method of wall-painting, which originally comes from Bavaria and Tyrol. This type of paintings involve a fresco-technique applied to freshly laid plaster. A wonderful photo motif!

Other great photo motifs are the mountains in the nature reserve Karwendel, the Wetterstein mountain chain and the nature preserve Wildmoos. On 450 km of hiking paths you can discover lush meadows, alpine pastures and cool mountain streams on foot or on your mountainbike. Recreation and relaxation are guaranteed in Leutasch (pic: Lake Weidachsee), for example in the Alpine bath with water slide. Relax your muscles in the stream bath, the waterfall or the grotta!

Also those who love winter sports can choose from two different skiing areas in the surroundings. Perfectly suitable for participants are the lift facilites in Neuleutasch, one of which is 180 m long, whereas the second boasts a lenght of about 360 m. If you already know how to ski well, we recommend you to ski in the skiing area of Leutasch-Kreithlift, featuring 15 km of ski slopes and of course a fun park for snowboarder as well as après ski.

Our tip: The “Leutascher Geisterklamm” (Leutaschklamm gorge), a ravine where a ghost is waiting for visitors! This gorge can be discovered on a circular route that leads you by massive rock faces. And don’t forget: Beware of the ghost! ;-)
