The municipality of Anras includes the area from the foothills of the Lienz Dolomites to the mountains of the Defereggen mountain range and from the small village Erlbach to the Kristeinerbach river. The settlements in the village are wide spread and are mainly located on the sunny side and the bottom of the valley. The municipality includes Asch-Winkl, Anras and Ried and is located from 900 m up to 1,261 m asl. Living in close touch with nature is the motto in Anras, located in fact in the heart of a great natural landscape.
Already in ancient times the bishops of Brixen recognised that this area is ideal for recreation and for this reason they established a summer residence in Anras. A sight that is worth seeing is Anras Castle, which has once been the court of the area. Today this castle is venue for exhibitions and concerts.
Those who love sports and seek relaxation will love Anras (see pic) due to the wide variety of leisure time offers. Due to its impressive location in the heart of nature it is an ideal place for various activities like mountain biking, hiking or simply walking. Moreover different leisure time facilities like tennis courts give variety. In winter time the Thurntaler mountain expects you with its 45 km of well-groomed slopes.
Our tip: The so-called “Kornkasten”, dating back to the 16th century, belongs to Anras Castle and includes a farmers’ shop offering natural products from the Villgratental valley, products made by farmers of Anras as well as fancy goods, snacks and drinks.
