Gletscherwelt Sölden 2009

Sölden Glacier

Covering an area of about 20 sqkm, the skiing region at the Rettenbach Glacier and Tiefenbach Glacier is the largest skiable glacial area of Austria.

Sölden has got even two glaciers to offer (see pic), which are the Rettenbach and Tiefenbach glaciers. From the parking space in Rettenbach you can take a 4-seated chair lift to the Rettenbachjoch ridge, from where a ski lift takes you to the Schwarze Schneid and another one to the Karleskogel, which is connected to the Tiefenbach Glacier by a ski tunnel.

From the Rettenbach Glacier, in other words from the Schwarze Schneid, you can enjoy skiing down into the valley on a 15 km long slope, boasting a drop of 1,900 m. The 6 km long ski route down the Rettenbachtal valley, however, is considered to be an insider’s tip. Of course also a stop in one of the 20 refuges is a must-do. Moreover in Sölden Après Ski already starts at the top of the mountain…

Giggijoch Boarder Park, Race Course, Easy Cross, Moguls - the choice is yours. And snow is guaranteed from November trough May!

Interesting: Sölden is the only skiing region that has to offer three skiable peaks that are more than 3,000 metres high, which are the Gaislachkogel (3,058 m), Tiefenbachkogl (3,250 m) and Schwarze Schneide (3,340 m). They are known as the “BIG 3″!
